Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das, the man behind the idea to create a separate province for Odia speaking people, had the courage to put forth his vision before the erstwhile British officials. He was one of the rarest persons of the country who had the audacity to speak his mind and about the glorious past of the State without any fear in front of the then Viceroy of India during early 1900's.
Madhu babu was the embodiment of compassion, selflessness, courage, stoicism and most importantly unimpeachable integrity. He was such a person whose integrity and dignity is still being taught to many children across the schools in the state. It would not be wrong if I say that he was such a visionary that during those tough times when people had no idea for a state's autonomy, he dreamt of a developed Odisha and advocated the concept of Make in Odisha by establishing Utkal Tannery and Silver Filgree works in Cuttack with his own income. He never named anything by his own name rather everything which he did was in the name of Utkal and this shows his greatness and love for his state. He lived for the identity of the state and even died protecting that identity. He proudly introduced himself as an Odia and never hesitated to hide his linguistic and cultural roots.
He showed what advocacy ought to be and for what causes an advocate must raise his voice. Fearless, bold, stoic, unmatched intelligence, effervescent and many more laudable qualities were like the feathers on the crown of the king like person who dedicated his life for the betterment of Odia people and for formation of the 1st state in India to be formed on linguistic basis prior to independence.
